Ah, it's the end of the week again Blog. I was at The Society of Illustrators for their Jazz & Sketch night last night and greatly enjoyed myself as always. I tried something slightly different from usual and did most of my drawings with a Magic Pencil, which is usually found in high schools and beginner art classes, but is ridiculously fun. Also, if it's good enough for Milton Glaser, it's good enough for me. The above image was actually done on the subway on the way home. The rest are from Jazz & Sketch.

What it is, Blog. We are officially "happy" about "holidays". Personally, I think any holiday not spent acquiring a DUI is a good one.

Over Thanksgiving I worked on some pieces for the lovely people at BusinessWeek and my first one for The New Yorker (!), which I'll post another time. The piece above is the BW half-page about e-tailers (I guess that's a word now) using social media to attract customers in droves for discounted items. Has anyone ever drawn a flock of Twitter birds? I hope not, I like to think I invented it.

I also did a smaller piece concerning the inadequacies of young managers, which you can view here.

In other news, I am included in the Society of Illustrators 52 sequential category for both "Let There Be Stuff" and "Rabbits". Wine and cheese please.

The Least Terrible*

Good afternoon Blog. Its been an odd jumble these past two weeks, filled with Big Apple Comic-Cons, sustainable parties, and tying up loose ends on open jobs. I'm looking forward to moving onto another big personal piece and some design gigs that just came my way.

The images above are from last night's Jazz & Sketch session at the Society of Illustrators. The awesomely scary thing about being there (and being a young illustrator), is that you definitely feel like you're part of a legacy going back for decades, when illustration was a much more venerable practice (it still is of course, but like everything, times change).

These sketches were done very quickly, with my best effort to quiet my lizard brain. I did a bunch, but I thought these were the least terrible*. Also, I was in the back so I missed a couple of AWESOME angles, but oh well.

* Two things I constantly ask myself are "Is this terrible?" and "How do I be less terrible?".
